So my Nana passed away recently, and in honour of her memory, I made this video of a few photos from her life. The song is 'Dancing With Angels' by Monk & Neagle. The video is blocked in Germany.
My Nana practically raised me, so I was very upset when she passed, and I miss her everyday. It hasn't really hit me that she's gone yet, but I know I have to keep smiling, because that's what my Nana would want.
She'd also be pretty grumpy with my Poppa, because since she passed, he has hung photos of her up on the wall in the lounge, and Nana hated having her photo taken.
The Sims 3 community mourns the loss of a fellow simmer this week as news of TheQuxxn’s death spreads. TheQuxxn (pronounced Queen, and commonly known as just ‘Quxxn’) was a YouTube sensation, with over 140,000 subscribers of her channel, as well as over 27 million views on her videos. Her YouTube bio states “I'm just your average 25 year old college girl. I love playing The Sims 3, SimCity, The Walking Dead, TF2, Tomb Raider, and a few other games. I'm a girly girl, but also a gamer. It's kind of like the best of both worlds.”
In her last video, Quxxn announced that she was “really really sick” and would be going in for surgery to get better. In the same video, she sounded optimistic, saying she would tweet to her fans throughout her hospital stay. Unfortunately, Quxxn wasn’t able to do so, as she had some complications from her surgery. Her cousin Meia announced on Twitter that she would not state what the surgery was for, but did post updates while Quxxn was unconscious. On the 14th of July, Meia wrote: “she is still open so the surgeon can make sure there’s no infections.” She also noted that they were keeping Quxxn heavily sedated in a coma-like state. On the 19th of July, it was revealed that she was no longer being heavily sedated, but her “temperature is 102 [degrees Fahrenheit].”
On Sunday the 21st of July 2013 in the afternoon, Quxxn passed away. A tweet from Meia on the 22nd said “There is and will ONLY be one Quxxn.” The tweet has been retweeted 734 times at the time of writing, as well as favourite 716 times.
Tributes from fellow simmers have popped up on YouTube, from friends and strangers. It just goes to show how one person can have such an impact on so many people’s lives. One simmer went on to create some Quxxn shirts for Sims in honour of her memory.
Here are some comments made by YouTube users:
“She was the person who inspired me to start my YouTube journey in the first place.” – JimmyChill03
“Watching her videos kind of gave me reassurance that I can do this [create Let’s Play’s]” – XUrban SimsX
“I will miss her and always remember her.” – MultiFirePrincess
“She will NEVER be forgotten.” – bethagethebrilliant
“Long live the Quxxn.” – BeatlesManiacArmy
Some of the best tributes made were by Simming legends like Quxxn, such as her friend James, who is best known as Flabiliki or TheSimSupply. In his tribute video, titled “Quxxn – Friend, Inspiration, Idol”, he is near tears as he relays the sad news of her death. YouTube user Chrillsims3 is struggling not to cry in his tribute video, speaking from the heart and saying “I loved her Let’s Play’s and I loved her as a friend”. YouTube and Simming legend Curtis Paradis proposed Quxxn Day, a day to remember Quxxn, watch her videos, and remember the happy person that she was.
Quxxn’s motto: Live beyond cloud nine. Well, she certainly will be.
Rest In Peace Quxxn, you will be forever missed, and forever loved.
Becca Puglisi's Critiquing Checklist:
Overall Story Issues:
Yep, yep, you read right, I won a writing competition!
Now, it wasn't an official competition in the sense that anyone can enter and you win cash prizes. To enter, you had to have had a Wattpad account (sign up at www.wattpad.com!) and at least one chapter of your story posted on Wattpad. So really, I lied before - anyone can enter, as long as they meet the requirements (which is pretty easy).
Anyway, I came FIRST in the Vampire/Werewolf genre!! I totally didn't even expect to come in the top three, but I came FIRST. I entered the first chapter of 'The Second Venefica' (which at the moment is on hold because my hard drive died and I can't retrieve it - a professional is trying to get everything off it now).
So why didn't I think I could win the Vampire/Werewolf genre? Well, for starters, there's no vampire or werewolf in the first chapter. In fact, the first chapter is so slow, I feel like I should delete it and just start from chapter two. Secondly, my story has had virtually no interest at all, compared to the other stories that entered. But thankfully, this competition wasn't based on popularity, but the quality of writing. It really does show that good quality is better than popularity. And last but not least, werewolf stories dominate Wattpad, so I thought there was no way in hell I'd stand a chance in that genre.
So, what's next? Well, I'm hoping to enter Rebel With A Cause in the Teen-Fiction category of the next Wattpad High competition. I want to see how my story will fare against those awful 1D stories (seriously, they are atrocious) that seem to dominate Wattpad (besides the werewolf romances).
Besides that, the people who run Wattpad High are in DESPERATE need of 'teachers' (people who grade work). The popularity of the competition has risen so fast that they are finding it hard to cope. If you are interested, send them a private message via their profile (http://www.wattpad.com/user/W_attpadHigh).
Anyway, ta-ta for now!
